About CMEA

The CMEA program certifies appraisers in USPAP-compliant machinery and equipment valuation. Its rules bar members from taking assignments with a predetermined value conclusion and from charging fees based on a percentage of the appraised amount. Lenders, CPAs, and the courts rely on those safeguards when an appraisal supports a loan file, a tax position, or a legal matter.

“Most of my reports end up in front of a credit officer, an IRS reviewer, or occasionally a judge,” Crites said. “The CMEA exists for that level of scrutiny. It tells the reader how the work was done before they get to the number.”

Crites is also a certified member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America, which confers the CAGA designation on appraisers who complete its certification training and exam.
